I've been digging through my old files looking for some interesting material for the comic book project. The subjects all seem too big to tell in my single panel per installment format. They range from; a space epic, period adventure, fantasy adventure, spec ops adventure, teen girl superhero and a geo political superhero story.
I thought I'd keep posting things until something comes to the surface, or one of you stops me. This post features the seed of the space epic, be kind this work was done almost 20 years ago.
Bathoom?

If the one panel format doesn't lend itself well to some of the projects you're excited to work on, would you consider modifying the format? I'm not an expert, but four panels are only slightly more intimidating than one panel, unless of course the one panel idea was part of an attempt to get AWAY from the stress of figuring out how to fill a page full of multiple panels. You wouldn't have to do them Peanuts style - you could mix it up in whatever manner you saw fit, provided of course you were jazzed to work in that way.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say, even after 20 years, that artwork still holds up, especially the stuff on Page 2.
One panel comics are a bit of work mostly in the writing. You have to convey the entire joke / statement in one shot. Once you've collected a good amt of one panel scripts the drawing becomes the easy part. As far as subject matter I say go with whatever you are going to have the best time enjoying what you are doing and not worrying what idea is going to be the next Invincible. (which is the trap I fall into often) for the past year i've been working on 1 page comics for the Ghost hunters fanzine the Paramag and those are between 6 -8 panels. I really enjoy that amt of space to work in.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. My vision is to structure the story so that the one panel images tell the story, but all connect as a whole at the end. The biggest factor in this choice is time, I can only devote a certain amount of my time to this effort and one panel is what I foresee as manageable at a time in my life. I have been inking a few of the previously posted pieces and will get them up when I finish a batch. The rust is thick on the drawing hand.
ReplyDeleteI was checking out your blog as I was thinking of getting into this blog business and lo and behold I see some familiar faces. Not to presume anything but this girl looks pretty familiar, not to mention some other characters I have known. Pretty funny to see it!
